15 ton electromagnet hits the road.

A 50 foot wide electromagnet (shown above in a scale model) is taking a five week road trip and cruise from its home in Brookhaven National Lab in New York to the Fermi National Accelerator Lab in Illinois.

Initially a truck will carry it to a barge, before shipping down the Atlantic, around Florida, then up the Mississippi River to Illinois.

The US$3 million move is still cheaper than constructing a new magnet which could be up to $30 million. Fermi Laboratory will use the magnet to study particle physics.

So ehmm I’ve been working on my first game. I am writing it in Java because the GUI stuff seems to be a little bit easier to get going then what I saw from C++, even though I have way more experience with C++.

I have an idea for the concept but at the moment I am mostly working on learning skills and creating resources.

So far I have:

• Controls
• Player animations
• Collisions
• Terrain Tileset is almost complete

Next is a level loading mechanism which I am going to base on what Notch did for one of the Ludum Dare’s he basically loads a png where each color pixel represents a different style of tile. So you can literally draw your levels. Seems like a convenient way of doing it.

I am incredibly excited to work on this and I can’t wait to show you all how things progress. Watch this space :-)
